Now that is revolutionary! Fresh fruit at Yankee Stadium

Yankees and FruitSomething revolutionary is happening at the new stadiums for the Yankees and the Mets, a new concept for sporting events has come… fresh fruit! Thank goodness, at last an option to the standard 1,341-calorie Nathan’s cheese fries for $7.25, 500-calorie Nathan’s footlong beef hot dogs for $6.75 and 290-calorie Budweisers for $10, is now available for NY baseball fans. At these stadiums baskets of fresh fruit are now available. Usually about 200 pounds of fruit are sold at each game, and my guess is as more people find out about this the numbers will increase.

This may not seem like such a big deal but after some thought it is quite remarkable and heralds the changing attitude, and a golden opportunity, in what people are eating in America. At last a demand for healthier food is being met and at such an unlikely place. It also is a reminder of how really bad the choices have become at many such public locations. For any relatively healthy eater, there would usually be no options for anything to eat at a stadium.

Now I am the first to admit that this is not the perfect solution. The fruit is not local, nor is it organic but it is at least a step in the right direction. Perhaps next to come will be tofu dogs and vegie burgers. To read more here is the NY Times article.
